What Is College Education And Technology?

College Education is a post secondary or third level institution. It is an optional final stage of formal stage of learning which occurs after the secondary education. It offers professional certifications or academic degrees. Education teachings in colleges are undergraduate programs, postgraduate programs and trainings.

Technology is the collection of techniques, methods or processes used in the production of goods or services or in the accomplishment of objectives, such as scientific investigation. Technology can be the knowledge of techniques, processes, etc. or it can be embedded in machines, computers, devices and factories, which can be operated by individuals without detailed knowledge of the workings of such things.



Technology Used In The Educational Field


E-learning is the major technological development tool which is majorly used in the educational field. As we all know E-learning is the process through which educational activities can be done through the use of Internet. With the use of internet, assignments can now be posted easily for student; research can now be done by student from anywhere. Educational communication techniques have expanded with the presence of internet.

Cloud Computing

These is an ability to be able to store information in the cloud and be able to access it at any point in term, it is a on the fly storage. Teachers and students today, can keep and access information in the cloud at any point in time.

Mobile Computing

Teachers and Student today can now access educational information, perform research online through the use of internet. The use of Mobile phones today can help students and teachers to access information at any point in time.

Computer applications

Teachers and students have access to computer technology applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Power point, and Spread sheet in carrying out and delivering school work activities.

Oculus Rift

This is a highly advanced futuristic technological application which will be highly introduced and used in future educational fields. The Rift is an upcoming virtual reality head-mounted display, being developed by Oculus VR. The Oculus Rift is a new virtual reality headset that lets players step inside their favorite games and virtual worlds.

The Oculus Rift creates a stereoscopic 3D view with excellent depth, scale, and parallax. Unlike 3D on a television or in a movie, this is achieved by presenting unique and parallel images for each eye. 3D Printing is any of various processes used to make a three-dimensional object. In 3D printing, additive processes are used, in which successive layers of material are laid down under computer control. These objects can be of almost any shape or geometry, and are produced from a 3D model or other electronic data source. A 3D printer is a type of industrial robot.


Positive Effects Of Technology On College Education Teachers and Students

Easier communication between students and teachers: The use of Technology in the college educational system has contributed a lot to the improvement and advancement of human relations, communications between college students and teachers. Today Students can now post problems concerning their studies online and teachers could help in getting solution to problem with in a short period of time. These means of communication has actually helped todays’ Generation of students gain higher level of intelligence, increases their range of attainable knowledge, and become highly resourceful easily.

Easier access to information: Technology has made knowledge abundant for students in terms of speed and style of learning preference. (For example, the presence internet learning and digital textbooks). The use of Internet Technology for e-learning has really helped students feel more connected to their college, their professor and their classmates as information can now be accessed to student through use of internet at any point in time. Students and teachers can now keep and access information easily with the presence of cloud computing, mobile computing and internet.

Technology has made life easier for the disabled students: Today there are computing tools which is available for the physically disabled student, for example the presence intel reader which reads aloud for the blind students, braille note taker also for the blind, we also have the presence sound amplification app for the deaf students which will assist them in hearing. All this has created a good encouragement ground for college physically impaired students.

Better presentation skills: Technology existence has made work presentation easier for both teachers and students. The existence of computer applications such as Microsoft word, excel, power point and has made presentation of class work easier for both teachers and students. This has also created both effective and efficient means of working in the college environment.


Negative Effects Of Technology On Both College Students And Teachers

Presence of internet has reduced analytical skills among students and teachers: The use of Internet is producing a decline in both teachers and students ability to think and analyze. Due to internet presence students no longer tend to think or try to analyze school work and activities.

'Technology presence has hindered our spelling and writing skills: Technology presence in a way, is not always helpful as it has make students today, lack the ability of having quality writing as most assignment and test are usually done through typing on the internet. Today, most students lack spelling and reading skills as most work is been done with use of computer and internet technology.

Technology has indirectly reduced the concentration of students in class: Technology has made college students concentration level to be reduced during class activities with teachers, some students tend to use appliances at the wrong time, for instance student making research with the use of internet while in class and some other students texting during a class.

Interactive skills are depreciated with the presence of technology: E-learning technology lacks human contact as well as the encouragement and support provided by in-person college lecturers. This can result to a loss of communication and interactive skills for students to apply in the real world.

The presence of distant learning through the use of Internet technology: The major downfall of this educational means is that students can get too comfortable to the shedding of responsibility distant learning brings that it can lead to loss of interest in learning and their education easily.
