During the installation procedure, Ubuntu has an option to automatically login upon boot-up.

Regardless, you can set your Ubuntu distribution to automatically login (although the procedure is well hidden - i.e. not "intuitive")...

Steps to Change to Automatic Login:

  1. Click SYSTEM -> ADMINISTRATION -> Login Window
  2. When prompted, enter your password (assuming you have administration privileges).
  3. The "Login Window Preferences" dialog box will appear.
  4. Click on the "Security" tab.
  5. Click to select first check-box beside "Enable Automatic Login"
  6. Click the list box to display and select the default user account to automatically login.
  7. Click the CLOSE button.

The next time you boot (or reboot) your system, it will automatically login in the the default user account specified....
