==Purpose / Objectives of Lab 1==
[[Image:hostmachinevmware-1.png|thumb|right|300px|The c7host Linux server will run virtualization software to install and run 3 virtual machines (installed in lab2). ]] You need will learn how to install a popular virtualization application called VMware Workstation in order to create and manage 4 virtual machines (Centos Linux OS ) for this course. In order to save money and resources when learning to install, manage, and network various Linux machines for this course, we will be using virtualization for this course. In previous courses, students were required to purchase a host or "platform" removable hard disk drive to complete this course. You are NOT required (preferred) to install and use a removable hard-drive for this course. On the other Linux VMs hand, it is ESSENTIAL to have a USB key (Virtual Machinesminimum storage capacity of 16 GB) to save your Linux images to be used in OPS235 labs sessions and to use on your notebook computer or desktop computer at home. You will learn during this courselab how to obtain VMware Workstation 12 for your use for your notebook computer or desktop computer at home.
The Linux OS you will be installing in this lab will be a Host Machine (''hostname'': '''c7host''') that will allow you to run '''Virtualization Software''' to create 3 separate virtual machines (to be performed in lab2). It is important to install this host machine correctly since other labs will depend on the stability of this host machine.
