Setup

  • Make your presentation offline by downloading all your resources
    • Using local links to your content
  • Don't count on the network working - regardless of the venue!
    • Live demo bugs (after all its not a live demo without them)
  • Ensure that you have the appropriate presentation adapters for your laptop

Day Before

  • Familiarize yourself with the projector/screen
    • If you can't find your device on the inputs, ask for help
  • See if the connection to your device works
  • Do a dry run
  • Charge your batteries

Presenting

Pre

  • Lay down the video cable you're using
  • Appropriately place the podium if you require it
  • Open your presentation and test the video
  • Ensure that you have adequate battery charge and/or you're properly plugged in
  • Make sure you have a "Plan B" and a "Plan C" - e.g., a backup laptop, paper notes from which to speak, or a whiteboard version of your presentation

During

  • Speak clearly and loudly
  • Do Not Put Your Hands In Your Pockets
    • Grip the podium, animate your examples, put your hands behind your back
  • Face the audience, you should know what is on your slides
    • Use "presenter mode" or mirroring on your laptop
  • Engage the audience
    • Questions, eye contact, and anecdotes help with this
  • Open the floor for questions or criticisms if appropriate
  • Keep an eye on the clock

Post

  • Put all the resources back where you found them
  • Turn off the projector/screen

    • Duration is limited
    • Videos end up in ~/Videos in webm format (use a browser to present, or use Handbrake or another tool to transform the format if absolutely necessary)
  • Quicktime
    • Using its screen capture ability
